Frequently Asked Questions
1.
What is DEFA Tracking?
DEFA Tracking is a GSM and GPS based tracking system. The solution consists of a central unit with an inserted SIM card and an associated subscription – ready for use. There are two subscription types: DEFA Basic (alarm to DEFA’s alarm centre) and DEFA Basic Light (alarm direct to you).
2.
How does DEFA Tracking work?
If a vehicle or a boat is stolen the DEFA tracking unit will send an alarm message (DEFA Basic subscription) to DEFA’s alarm centre. The DEFA alarm centre is 24 hours operated in co-operation with the Danish assistance company Falck, which will inform you immediately and start the tracking. You have the possibility to track your vehicle or boat yourself by means of your own mobile phone and a digital map which you can access from DEFA’s homepage. Just send an SMS to the tracking unit and you will receive a reply containing information about the speed and position of the vehicle. You can enter this information on www.defa.com and see where your vehicle or boat is.
3.
Why choose tracking equipment from DEFA?
Since 2003 more than 18,000 DEFA tracking units have been installed. The products are characterized by a very high quality and are the first choice of many insurance companies in connection with satellite tracking. In Denmark the products are renowned under the name of DanTrack.
DEFA is now completing the tracking solution with a subscription and the possibility of surveillance by its own alarm centre which ensures you increased security and professional assistance in case of theft.
This fact makes DEFA Tracking today’s most complete solution on the market.
4.
Why choose a subscription with alarm centre surveillance?
The alarm centre surveillance subscription increases the possibility of discovering the theft and informing you quickly. The alarm centre is in charge of the recovery as well as the contact to the local police or security company which secures the vehicle at the place of recovery and arranges transport to a safe place. The DEFA alarm centre is a professional partner offering you assistance when you need it.
If you have a DEFA Basic Light subscription (no surveillance by the alarm centre) you must take the initiative of tracking the vehicle or boat and agree with somebody to take care of the vehicle when it has been localized.
5.
What are the advantages of DEFA’s complete solution?
The DEFA Tracking unit is delivered direct to the end user ready for use, completely configured and with an inserted SIM card and associated subscription.
DEFA Services check the unit on a regular basis which is your guarantee that the system always works at its optimum. Future system software and equipment updates take place automatically and secure that you always have the latest version.

What is the recovery rate?

In the few cases where the vehicle has not been recovered we are speaking about insurance fraud and/or the unit having been deactivated.

DEFA has developed an online dealer solution – Dealer Web – which makes it easy to register customers and associated subscriptions. All approved dealers have their own access to Dealer Web so they can register you as a customer when making the installation.
When the tracking unit has been installed and connected it is automatically configured by DEFA Services. When the configuration is completed both you and the technician will receive en e-mail containing the registered data and information about the subscription.

What happens in case of change of ownership or termination of subscription?
If the vehicle or boat is sold with the DEFA tracking unit the subscription must be transferred to the new owner. Contact your local DEFA dealer.
The subscription can be suspended for a period of time if you inform DEFA about this. Change of subscription in connection with change of ownership or suspension will be charged.

Who can communicate with the vehicle/boat?
Your own mobile number must be registered in the unit and you decide what persons should be allowed to communicate with it.
